Michael is the co-head of Wellington’s Private Investment business which manages more than $7bn in assets under management across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. From early-stage venture to late-stage growth, the team has a long track record of investing across multiple sectors and stages of private equity bringing expertise across each stage of the business lifecycle. Michael leads the firm’s effort to deepen and broaden private investment capabilities to support growth and ensure strong overall investment results. In addition, Michael manages Wellington’s diversified late-stage growth equity business that invests across technology, consumer, healthcare, and financial services sectors. Previously, Michael managed institutional portfolios in the multi-cap growth styles and spent part of his career investing in diversified portfolios in the small- and mid-cap equity markets. He has authored papers on topics concerning investment trends in late-stage growth and small-cap equity portfolios. He is a member of the firm’s Incentive Compensation Committee and previously served as the first male advisory board member of the Wellington Women’s Network. Prior to joining Wellington Management in 1999, Michael was an equity portfolio manager at Kobrick Funds (1997 – 1999), State Street Research and Management (1992 – 1996, 1997), and Montgomery Asset Management (1996). He began his career in the investment industry as a technology analyst with Sanford Bernstein (1988 – 1990) and later with Cigna Investments (1991 – 1992). Michael received his MBA from New York University (Stern, 1991) and his BS in accounting from the State University of New York at Albany (1984). Additionally, he holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
