Comparison Hub

How iConnections Compares to Every Major Alternatives Platform

Every fund manager building an alternatives fundraising stack evaluates the same platforms: events, data subscriptions, allocator databases. We get the question often: “How is iConnections different?” This hub is our answer, with side-by-side comparisons across three categories.

The iConnections Network

26K+ allocators, fund managers and service providers actively on the platform.

iConnections is the year-round LP-GP relationship platform. AI-matched meetings, document sharing, behavioral signals, and flagship cap intro events. Almost everything else in this hub is complementary to that.

Category 1 — Events

How iConnections Compares to Conference and Forum Brands

These platforms are built around live events: annual flagships, regional forums, off-record CIO gatherings. iConnections runs flagship cap intro events too (Global Alts Miami, NYC, Singapore, Paris in 2027), but the platform layer is what runs year-round between them.

iConnections vs. SuperReturn

Year-round platform vs. annual flagship private equity conference (Berlin).

iConnections vs. Markets Group

Single global platform vs. 900+ hyper-regional invitation-only LP/GP forums.

iConnections vs. Institutional Investor

Year-round LP-GP platform vs. intimate off-record CIO event series.

iConnections vs. Milken Institute

Year-round LP-GP platform vs. flagship Global Conference and cross-sector think-tank convenings.

Category 2 — Data & Intelligence

How iConnections Compares to Research Platforms

These platforms aggregate data on funds, deals, allocators, and the alternatives market. They’re foundational research and diligence tools, and they layer on top of iConnections rather than overlap with it.

iConnections vs. Preqin

LP relationship platform vs. private capital fund performance and allocation database.

iConnections vs. PitchBook

LP engagement platform vs. private market deal and company data.

iConnections vs. With Intelligence

LP relationship platform vs. private markets data and analytics ecosystem (S&P Global).

iConnections vs. S&P Global

LP relationship platform vs. market data, ratings, and financial intelligence at enterprise scale.

iConnections vs. eVestment

LP relationship platform vs. institutional manager research and analytics database (Nasdaq).

iConnections vs. FINTRX

LP relationship platform vs. private wealth and family office data intelligence.

Category 3 — Databases & Distribution Platforms

How iConnections Compares to Databases & Distribution Platforms

Some platforms give you the list. Others move product through the wealth channel. Both are real routes to capital, and neither is the same as a room where allocators have already agreed to meet you. Here is how iConnections fits alongside each.

iConnections vs. Altss

Two-sided LP engagement platform vs. OSINT-driven LP intelligence database.

iConnections vs. Dakota

Inbound LP engagement vs. outbound allocator contact database (Dakota Marketplace + Backstop).

iConnections vs. CAIS

LP relationship platform vs. alternative investment marketplace for wealth advisors.

iConnections vs. iCapital

LP relationship platform vs. alternative investment access and feeder-fund infrastructure.

Our Approach to Every Comparison

No “we win” framing

Most of these platforms are well-respected category leaders that solve different problems. Our job is to show what each one does best and where iConnections sits in the stack.

Complementary by default

Most of our members keep their Preqin, PitchBook, Dakota, and With Intelligence subscriptions. The strongest IR teams run multiple layers in parallel.

Verified facts only

Every numerical claim on every page is sourced from primary documentation (the platform’s own site, regulatory filings, or our own confirmed platform data).

Updated annually

Comparison pages are reviewed and refreshed each year as products evolve.

iConnections is the layer that connects all three motions.

The year-round platform where allocators show up, engage with managers, and signal intent in real time. Events feed the platform. Data informs the conversations. Databases identify who to invite. The platform turns all of it into pipeline.

“iConnections puts the right LPs in one place and makes it easy to have focused, pre-qualified conversations that would normally take months to set up.”

GP Survey

“iConnections delivers highly targeted, pre-qualified LP access in a time-efficient, decision-focused environment. This efficiency, combined with data-driven matching and senior-level LP participation, consistently produces more meaningful capital raising outcomes.”

GP Survey

“I judge every fundraising channel by one question: is this getting me closer to a real conversation with a real allocator? The signals and intelligence behind each match mean my pitch lands with LPs who actually care about my strategy, not a curated list that goes cold.”

More About How We Compare

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these comparisons biased?

We’re an iConnections-published page, so the framing reflects our perspective, but we work hard to keep the facts accurate and balanced. Each comparison acknowledges the strengths of the platform, event, or organization being evaluated. We don’t make event-metric claims (meeting counts, attendee numbers) without sourcing them, and we don’t claim parity with platforms that genuinely do something different and better in their lane.

Which comparison should I read first?

Read the page for whatever you’re already paying for or evaluating. If you’re a hedge fund team, start with With Intelligence or Preqin. If you’re running outbound, start with Dakota. If your calendar is built around live events, start with SuperReturn or Markets Group. The strongest IR teams typically end up using two or three of these platforms alongside iConnections.

Do you maintain comparisons for other platforms not in this hub?

We update this hub as the market evolves. If there’s a platform you’re evaluating that isn’t covered here, let us know, we may add it.
