Dr. Sandford D. Greenberg, Chairman of the Board of Governors, The Johns Hopkins University’s Wilmer Eye Institute; His Memoir, Hello Darkness, My Old Friend

Dr. Sanford D. Greenberg is Chairman of the Board of Governors of The Johns Hopkins University’s Wilmer Eye Institute, the largest clinical and research enterprise in ophthalmology in the United States. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a Trustee Emeritus of The Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medicine, which incorporates the School of Medicine and the Hospital.  President Clinton appointed Dr. Greenberg to the National Science Board, which oversees the National Science Foundation and advises both the President and Congress on policy matters related to science and engineering. He served as Chairman of the Rural Health Care Corporation, created by Congress to bring the benefits of telemedicine to America’s rural areas. Dr. Greenberg was a founding director of the American Agenda, an organization established by Presidents Carter and Ford to identify for President George H. W. Bush the six most urgent problems confronting the nation and to recommend bipartisan solutions. He also served as a director of the National Committee on United States–China Relations.  He is co-editor of the book The Presidential Advisory System, which discusses the methods used by American Presidents to obtain policy advice for the management of the federal government. His memoir, Hello Darkness, My Old Friend was released in June 2020.   Dr. Greenberg received his B.A. as Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University in 1962. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University, and his M.B.A. from Columbia University. He was a Marshall Scholar at Oxford University and attended Harvard Law School. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Sue; they have three children and four grandchildren.



Mark E. Roberts

Chief Investment Officer, Ironsides Asset Advisors

Mark E. Roberts, CFA serves as the Chief Investment Officer for Ironsides Asset Advisors, LLC, as well as a Managing Director for the Tuscarora Company (a family office). Immediately preceding that, Mr. Roberts was the Director of Global Equities and Hedged Strategies for the North Carolina Retirement Systems where he and his team were responsible for the management of the $33 billion Global Equity and Hedge Fund portfolios for the State of North Carolina. Additionally, Mr. Roberts has served as Chief Investment Officer for families and provided consulting services for endowments and foundations in both asset allocation, manager due diligence and portfolio construction. Earlier in his career, Mr. Roberts served as Director of Risk Management for Centura Bank and had asset – liability management responsibilities. Mr. Roberts received his Master of Science degree in finance from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the Calloway School of Business at Wake Forest University. Mr. Roberts serves on the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine Philanthropic Advisory Board. Mr. Roberts is the past Chairman of the Board for the NC State Investment Fund and still serves on the fund’s board. He is a member of the North Carolina Society of Financial Analysts and the American Finance Association. Mr. Roberts has served on multiple non-profit boards.

Who can attend the event?

This event is open to iConnections members only.  By registering for the event, you will be able to access the platform immediately upon approval and continue your access after the event.


What is the cost of membership?

Allocator registration is complimentary.  Fund manager cost is based on firm AUM.  Please reach out to for details on fund manager pricing.


What if I only want to attend the event?

We do not offer event-only access at this time.  Allocators can opt to hide their profiles from being visible in searches as well as silence their notifications if they are not currently sourcing managers.  Allocators can also opt-out at any time.


What is included in membership?

iConnections members benefit from year-round access to a dynamic and active community of world-class allocators and fund managers.  Members receive complimentary access to all iConnections events as well as reduced fees or pro-bono access to partner events.  Meetings can be arranged throughout the year. Our coffee chat forum, curated content and points-based reward system creates an engaging community throughout the year.  Physical events will begin in January 2022.  


Is there a mobile app?

 Currently, there is not an application available, but the iConnections platform is expecting to add one soon.

There is no password for the system.  You can access the system with your email and a five-digit verification code that will be sent to your email or mobile number if provided.


I registered but need to change and/or modify my information.

You can make modifications to your registration without losing information that you previously entered.  In the iConnections platform dashboard, navigate to “Profile” (on the left side of the page), then select the tab you’d like to edit.  Changes to your contact profile can be made by clicking directly on the field, and saved by clicking the check mark.  Changes to investment preferences or fund profiles can be made by clicking on the button with 3 circles to the left of your fund or mandate, and clicking edit.
